
Jazmine was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam her mother was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. In the age of five the father of her was appointed as City's Historic Strawberry Mansion curator. She and her family moved later into this historic building. As a 2005 Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts student, she is a major in the area of vocal. Sullivan was first singing in the kids' chorus as a contralto and then she joined the adult choir only a couple of years further on. Sullivan's exposure to secular music was not extensive at first "I was doing solos in church and someone wanted me to go on an gospel label when I had turned eleven, however I wasn't ready to do that," she recalls. "Then when McDonald's had a competition for youngsters in the major cities and I was offered the chance to sing 'Accept What God Wills' on Showtime in the Apollo and the audience loved it". Stevie Wonder sang her part when he turned 13. Sullivan was the first to sign her contract with Jive Records when she was fifteen. It was her first time signing with Jive Records around the age of fifteen. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album. However, this album never saw release. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the record label. Missy Elliott was her producer for several tracks from the album she released her debut. One of them is "Backstabbers" of Timbaland that Elliott produced, is a high point of their relationship.
